How the AI answers
The widget never invents answers out of thin air. Here is exactly where its responses come from, and what it does when it doesn’t know.
The sources, in order of influence
When a visitor asks something, the AI composes an answer using these inputs:
- Your business context — what you told us during onboarding (what you do, hours, service area, policies).
- Your FAQs — question-and-answer pairs you write in FAQs. If a visitor asks something close to one of them, your written answer is used nearly verbatim.
- Your Knowledge Base — longer-form notes about products, processes, or anything else. See Knowledge Base.
- The conversation so far — so follow-up questions work naturally (“and what about weekends?”).
Anything you can target with a specific FAQ can also be scoped to a specific widget, if you run several.
What happens when the AI doesn't know
If a question isn't covered by anything you've written, the widget says so honestly and steers the visitor toward leaving their contact details so you can answer personally. It will not guess at prices, availability, or promises on your behalf.
Tip
Guardrails
- Answers are grounded in your content — not general web knowledge about your industry.
- The AI won't discuss competitors, give legal/medical advice, or engage abusive conversations.
- Sensitive questions get deflected to “a human will follow up” rather than improvised.
How to improve answer quality
- Write answers, not keywords. FAQs work best when the answer field is the exact sentence you'd want the visitor to read.
- Cover the money questions: price ranges, availability, booking steps, guarantees.
- Keep it current. If your hours change, update your FAQs and Knowledge Base the same day.
- Read transcripts weekly. Real visitor phrasing tells you which FAQs to add next.
